Being A Teen Ain’t Easy presented photographs created during summer 2017 by twelve emerging youth artists from Athens county, Ohio.
The exhibit showcased photographs that reflected the unique perspectives of the artists and were accompanied by written reflections of their thoughts, desires and challenges.
During the summer workshop the girls learned the basic principles of storytelling; how to use photography to reflect their unique view of the world; and how to use doodling to express their thoughts and ideas.
The program created a safe space for these young folks to reflect collectively on their realities and their way of seeing the world by using media and arts as a tool for self-reflection. Throughout the workshop group members were able to identify common interests and share stories related to high school, the arts, friendship, love, the court system, foster care and other aspects of their lives.

The 2017 Youth Photo Project was a partnership between APP, 317 Board, Hopewell and Athens Juvenile Probate Court.
